Got Roots?

 Colossians 2:6-7 Amplified Bible
“As you have therefore received Christ, [even] Jesus the Lord, [so] walk (regulate your lives and conduct yourselves) in union with and conformity to Him.
7 Have the roots [of your being] firmly and deeply planted [in Him, fixed and founded in Him], being continually built up in Him, becoming increasingly more confirmed and estabilshed in the faith, just as you were taught, and abounding and overflowing in it with thanksgiving.”

I am not known for my gardening skills – those that know me will attest to that fact.  In fact, we are considering fake plants for the back deck. lol

However, I at least know if a plant or tree of any kind does not have roots, it will not survive.

Another thing I know about gardening is when you plant a seed – before it will turn into a plant – the seed will die.

So, why am I writing so much information about plants?  We ourselves are the same.  When we come to know Christ and begin our relationship with Him.  Our will, our “flesh” dies.  We put away the old desires and wants, and we reprioritize our lives in line with the Word of God.  By putting away the old habits and taking on new ones, we begin to grow in Christ.  That’s what verse 6 of Colossians is talking about.  It says “…(regulate your lives and conduct yourselves) in union with and conformity to Him.”  We should as Pastor Larry – my Dad – has always told our church, “Live to make God look good.”

When the winds of life come, and they will, a person with shallow roots in Christ will tend to be rooted up.  That’s why it’s so important to know the Word of God, the Bible.

Now, you don’t just wake up one day and say, “I’m completely rooted and grounded in Christ.”  This is a process.  You – as John Maxwell says –  make the decision and manage the decision.  It’s a daily commitment to chose right, to pray, to read the Bible, etc.

Just as a plant, you need time to grow.  Some people never grow. (That’s a whole other blog in itself.)  I encourage you to get roots in the right place – firmly and deeply planted in Christ.  Then go live to make God look good…

If you have never made a decision to have a relationship with God, please go to the Fountain of Life Web Site link under Click This and see the “ r u ready “ tab located on that page.
